Come and meet the women leading the fight against the climate crisis in Portsmouth. We have an excellent panel of speakers:
Bianca Carr, Founder of the Final Straw Foundation
In 2017 Bianca began a small project on sustainability in her local town. Fast forward to today and she is running a successful small charity across the south coast focusing on ocean health. Final Straw Foundation (1191500) works with local communities and businesses to highlight and tackle the impact of pollution on our marine environment, with a particular focus on plastic pollution.
Megan Howson, Portsmouth Friends of the Earth
Meg Howson is a volunteer member of Portsmouth Friends of the Earth. Since retiring in 2018 she has become increasingly worried about and subsequently involved in campaigning for improvements in our local environment.
Jenni Jones, Liveable Cities & Towns Officer for Sustrans
Jenni has been working for Sustrans (the charity, for safe, walking, and cycling in our city) as Portsmouth’s Liveable Cities and Towns Officer since 2021. In that time she has supported PCC’s delivery of the School Streets programme, co-founded the Welcome Wheels refugee bike scheme, and supported many local community groups and charities with fundraising and active travel. Sustrans are currently working on behalf of PCC to make Foxes Forest more welcoming and accessible for everyone to enjoy. Jenni has also been on the Southsea Beachwatch team since 2018.
Clare Seek, Founder of the Library of Things and the Repair Café Portsmouth (pioneering reducing, reusing and recycling)
Before moving to Portsmouth in 1999, Clare Seek had lived in various countries and places in the UK, but now can’t imagine being anywhere else. She’s passionate about people and planet, has run campaigns in the city such as Surfers Against Sewage’s Plastic Free Portsmouth, co-ordinated environmental groups such as Portsmouth Green Drinks which aims to connect and inform people about environmental issues locally and runs neighbourhood projects such as Wimbledon Park Patch and a local food buying group. Her latest project has been around helping people to find ways to repair their broken objects. Repair Café Portsmouth has been running as a pop-up for the past 5 years, but it’s now going to a new level. Along with others, Clare founded Share (Portsmouth) at the end of last year, with the aim of helping us all reduce our carbon footprints, waste and raw material use. The charity has opened a hub in Cascades Shopping Centre, now home to Repair Café Portsmouth and a new project, Portsmouth Library of Things
All proceeds from this event will go to support Pompey Parklets
